One for All Alaska Fund
Did you know that 1 in 6 children in Alaska do not receive the daily nutrition required for a normal, active childhood? That’s why Credit Union 1 has identified fighting childhood hunger to be our credit union wide focus in 2013. Each year, the One for All Alaska Fund is used to raise money for the credit union wide yearly focus. Then, at the end of each year, the fund is zeroed out because ALL the money goes back into our communities. In 2012, over $24,000 was raised and invested back into the community to support Alaska's youth.
Whether it's by providing school lunches, hot meals, after school food programs or emergency food and shelter, one way or another, each of these organizations is working to fight childhood hunger in our state.
ALL money raised in each community will stay in that community and funds will be dispersed in January 2014:
Anchorage: The Children's Lunchbox (provides school lunches and weekend food supplies for kids).
Eagle River: Dare to Care (provides school lunches)
Soldotna: Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula (funds will go towards the club's food program)
Kodiak: Kodiak Island Food Bank (provides emergency food to families and kids)
Ketchikan: Women in Safe Homes (WISH) (provides emergency food and shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence)
Fairbanks: Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (provides emergency food and shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence)
Nome: Nome Community Food Bank (provides emergency food to families and kids)
If you're a member, you can donate by going to www.cu1.org and transferring funds into the account of the community you'd like to give to.
