Story of the Quilt:

The quilt was started about three years ago by Annie Heintzman, beloved
Education Specialist with Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska, who recently passed away.

Annie made the quilt out of total love for her grandmother. The flower basket centerpiece pattern was passed down to Annie from her grandmother. The pattern was over 100 years old by the time Annie transferred it onto the block and began the careful and precise embroidery work. The embroidery work took 2 years to complete.

She used a collection of material gathered over the years to create the “nine block “pattern in the main body of the quilt. Once she finished piecing all the blocks together, Annie placed the basket centerpiece on the quilt. A close family friend, Shay Kader of Yakima, Washington did the quilting and sent it back to Annie. Annie’s sister-in-law, Shirley Heintzman added the final binding to complete the quilt.

It’s because of the absolute and unwavering dedication that Annie had for her work and the families she served, that her surviving family members have decided to donate the quilt in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska. It’s their hope that proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit families served through their programs and services.
